Canadian band, The Rural Alberta Advantage just saw the re-release of their album, Hometowns this week, after signing on with indie label, Saddle Creek. The album, which has been floating around since as early as 2008, being sold at their live shows is finally out to the masses. RAA was born out of singer/songwriter Nils Edenloff's exodus from Edmonton, Alberta to Toronto, Ontario in 2003 that inspired the band's name, and his dealing with his homesickness and loneliness after the move.
The odes to his former hometown have been earning rave reviews since it's initial self-release, with the bands biggest break coming in late '08, when the digital music retailer eMusic.com selected the RAA from a fan recommendation as an eMusic Selects artist, later earning the band new publicity and exposure to over 400,000 music fans and subscribers. 'Hometowns' went on to became the highest-selling Selects album in history and a critical darling overnight. The band also had a breakthrough performance at SXSW in Austin this year, that helped set up more buzz for the discs re-release. Get familiar with the track "Frank,AB" from 'Hometowns' below.
