Song of the Week: Little Green Cars- "The John Wayne"

I've been admittedly slow coming around on the Irish 5 piece, Little Green Cars. I had heard their name mentioned quite a bit around SXSW but never took the time to check them out. Since getting my hands on their debut disc, Absolute Zero I'm now feeling like a fool because it's all sorts of awesome. Check out the lead single, "The John Wayne" below and grab their album which is out now via Glassnote (Daughter, Chvrches, Phoenix).

Water Liars- "Linens" (Live Session)

This Mississippi Duo released a fantastic new album, Wyoming back in March that features some of the best harmonies you'll hear this year. One such track that shows off those sweet tones is the song, "Linens" which the band recently performed for Out of Town Films while at a tour stop in Philadelphia.

Dan Croll- "Compliment Your Soul"

Night Beds- "Ramona" (live for Crypt Sessions)

If your a regular reader of the blog, you know by now how enamored I am with the debut LP from Night Beds, Country Sleep.  The band has been hitting the road hard in support of the new disc since it came out a few months back, and right now they're across the pond in the UK with some live dates.
One recent stop brought them to North London & the folks over at The Crypt Sessions where they performed a nice stripped down take on the track "Ramona." I really like the outro on this one, watch below.

Song of the Week: Float Fall-"Someday"

I don't know much about this weeks 'Song of the Week' other than it comes from a duo out of Leuven, Belgium, Rozanne Descheemaekers and Ruben Lefever. What I do know is that this delicate piano led track with it's layers of simple beats has been lodged in my head for the past week. Give it a spin below, and stay tuned for more details hopefully soon.

More New Music from The National: "Don't Swallow the Cap"

The National has released the second track (and the first official single) from their forthcoming album, Trouble Will Find Me. The song titled, "Don't Swallow the Cap" follows-up “Demons” from earlier last week. The new album is out this May 21st and if these two are any indication this could be their finest work yet. These two are seriously killing me.
In other news from the group, they have a new documentary on the way, Mistaken for Strangers shot by Matt Berninger's brother Tom who followed the band around on their tour for their last LP, High Violet. It premieres at NYC 's Tribeca Film Festival on April 17, and you can watch the trailer for it below.

The Great American Canyon Band- 'Lost at Sea' EP

I've been waiting patiently for new music from husband & wife duo The Great American Canyon Band for quite some time now. The pair released a most excellent single "Tumbleweed" back in early 2012 but has been largely silent since. That recently changed with the band releasing a brand new EP called Lost at Sea on April 2nd. Along with the track "Tumbleweed" the EP features three new tracks from the band. Stream the whole thing below, and check their Facebook for some upcoming tour dates.

The Lone Bellow- "Tree to Grow" (live session for Serial Box Presents)

I've been a little late coming around to the debut album from Brooklyn's The Lone Bellow. Since getting my hands on it though it's been a steady grower that has made it's way into my daily routine. One of my personal favorites from the record is the track, "Tree to Grow" which the band recently shot a gorgeous video for out in Hollywood with the talented folks at Serial Box Presents.  Watch below.

Telekinesis- "Ghosts and Creatures"

Just last week the Michael Benjamin Lerner led project, Telekinesis unveiled their third LP, Dormarion. Largely unfamiliar with his first two works, this latest effort has been blasting from my speakers non-stop the past two weeks, especially the completely infectious track, "Ghosts and Creatures."
Dormarion is available now via Merge records.

New Music: The National- "Demons"

Sometimes it's scary when your favorite band is about to release new music. You might get a little nervous that it could possibly disappoint, and not live up to your lofty expectations. Luckily in the case of The National this never ever happens for me.
Check out the first single "Demons" from their forthcoming album, Trouble Will Find Me, out May 21 in the U.S.

 The National-"Demons"
When I think of you in the city,
The sight of you among the sites.
I get this sudden sinking feeling,
Of a man about to fly.
Never kept me up before,
Now I’ve been awake for days.
I can’t fight it anymore,
I’m going through an awkward phase.
I am secretly in love with,
Everyone that I grew up with.
Do my crying underwater,
I can’t get down any farther.
All my drowning friends can see,
Now there is no running from it.
It’s become the crux of me,
I wish that I could rise above it.

But I stay down,
With my demons.
But I stay down,
With my demons

Passing buzzards in the sky,
Alligators in the sewers.
I don’t even wonder why,
Hide among the under views.
Huddle with them all night long,
The worried talk to god goes on.
I sincerely tried to love it,
Wish that I could rise above it.

But I stay down,
With my demons.
I stay down,
With my demons
I stay down,
With my demons.
I stay down,
With my demons
I stay down,
With my demons

Can I stay here? I can sleep
on the floor
paint the blood and hang the palms,
On the door.
Do not think I’m going places anymore,
Wanna see the sun come up above New York.
Oh, everyday I start so great,
Then the sunlight dips.
Less I’ve learned,
The more I see the pythons and the limbs.
Do not know what’s wrong with me,
Sours in the cup.
When I walk into a room,
I do not light it up.
Fuck.

So I stay down,
With my demons
I stay down,
With my demons
I stay down,
With my demons
I stay down,

Song of the Week: Frank Smith- "Chewing Glass"

Frank Smith is a band not a man, and somehow with 10 releases already under their belt I managed to miss them all. Luckily they just released a brand new album this week that I did catch called, Nineties. As you might have guessed it features some nice guitar driven nineties inspired tracks, but it's actually the slow burning piano tinged ballad, "Chewing Glass" that I keep returning to.
Give it a try below & check out more of Frank Smith's new LP over on their website HERE.

David Ramirez- "The Forgiven"

Ever since moving to Austin late last year I've fallen hard for the tunes of David Ramirez. I've been doing everything I can to soak up all his music both new and old. Last month came great news of a new EP called The Rooster, along with the release of a phenomenal new track "The Bad Days." As amazing as I thought that track was, Ramirez unveiled another new song from the EP yesterday, this one called "The Forgiven" and it's even more impressive. I'm not sure how many songs are on this EP but it's shaping up to be pretty ridiculously good. The Rooster is due out this May 7th.

Local Natives- "You & I" (live for Wood & Wires)

Local Natives took some time during a recent tour stop in Toronto to record a live session with the people at Wood & Wires. The band played an excellent stripped down version "'You & I", the opener from their newest release Hummingbird. If you don't have this one in your collection yet, your really missing out.

Night Beds- "Borrowed Time" (live version)

There's been a ton of fantastic records to come out already this year, but maybe none better than the debut disc from Night Beds, Country Sleep. While doing the rounds at SXSW several weeks back the band made some time for a performance of the album track, "Borrowed Time" on the banks of Lady Bird Lake in Austin for the folks at 91.7 FM and Art&Seek's On The Road series.
