Get to Know: Foy Vance- "Janey"

Irish singer-songwriter Foy Vance recently signed on board with Glassnote Records, who will be releasing his new record, Joy of Nothing this August. It features this stunning track, "Janey" which you can catch below.
Here's a little about Vance via Glassnote's website: "Foy Vance hails from the seaside town of Bangor in Northern Ireland. As a child, Foy relocated with his father, a preacher, to the American Midwest settling in Oklahoma. With his father, Foy travelled the American South, widening his horizons and absorbing the rich musical traditions he was exposed to.  Returning to Ireland some years later, Foy began writing his own music, deeply shaped by the sounds of his youth."

Palma Violets- "Best of Friends"

I needed a little rock 'n roll in my life this morning and this track from Palma Violets did the trick. I saw this young London 4 piece on Jools Holland a few months back and I've been meaning to post something on them ever since. Now comes their hotly tipped debut LP this Feb. 25th via Rough Trade, led by their breakout single "Best of Friends" which nabbed NME's best song of 2012.

The London-based trio are now gearing for the release of their debut full-length, If You Leave, on April 30th via Glassnote and they just premiered it's first video for the single “Still” watch below.

Daughter Live @ Glasslands 3/10/12

With SXSW kicking into full gear this week, you'll be hearing a lot about bands and artists to watch for 2012 and beyond. If her debut shows in NYC this past weekend are any kind of early indication, I think it's a safe bet you'll be hearing a lot more about UK's, Daughter (Elena Tonra). I saw her and her band play to a packed house at Glasslands gallery in Brooklyn on Saturday night and it was truly a mesmerizing set. Daughter's voice on record has that odd quality of sounding confident and shy at the same time, but in concert that innocence really shined through and stole the room. Elena seemed genuinely in awe that she was playing to a full house, even commenting a few times how grateful & surprised they were that people were showing up to their first U.S shows. Playing songs off her two EP's that were released last year, His Young Heart and The Wild Youth, the 3 piece took control of the room early with a stunning version of, "Landfill" with great backing vocals provided by the guys in the band. Other highlights of the set for me included the popular, "Youth", and "Love" which slowly builded until the tension explodes in the song. Switching to play acoustic a couple of times during the show, another standout track was, "Candles" off of her first EP, His Young Heart.
If I had one complaint abot the show it would only be that I wish she had more songs to play, and that it lasted longer. Hopefully there's a full length in the future toward the end of the year.
But for now both EP's are available, and they were just recently added on iTunes via Glassnote music.

Benjamin Francis Leftwich- "Pictures"

I started following Benjamin Francis Leftwich's music towards the end of last year. The talented singer-songwriter who hails from the UK, caught attention back home with two well-received EPs in  2010 and early 2011, that led up to his debut LP, Last Smoke Before the Snowstorm finding it's release. The disc has some great tunes on it, the highlight of which might be the delicate track, "Pictures." Leftwich just announced plans for the song to be released as his latest single this coming February 20th. In other news he also recently unveiled plans for a new set of tour dates in the US and Canada beginning this April. Take a look at the video for "Pictures" below, and check out his website for all the latest tour details HERE.

Get to Know: Daughter

This is actually an artist I discovered the other day via a facebook post/suggestion from an equally talented singer, James Vincent McMorrow. James' hype was spot on about the UK songstress Elena Tonra, aka Daughter, who has a new EP, The Wild Youth out now. She has an intoxicating voice and her new tunes have been on heavy repeat the past few days as I'm getting familiar with her music.

You can stream the 4 song EP below or purchase it via Daughter’s Bandcamp page now, and you can also pick up one of the tracks “Love” for free over at her Soundcloud. One not to miss.
