Paper Route- Live at The Mercury Lounge 7/14

I've been following the Nashville band, Paper Route for awhile now, dating back to their first EP in '06, but for some reason have never caught the bands live show before. With a heavy dose of synth and electronics on their Ep's and debut album I was curious what the band would bring to their live performance at The Mercury Lounge last night. Where some electronic based acts can falter in the live setting, Paper Route dispelled any worries early on in the proceedings, as they hit the stage running, ripping through the first two songs of the set, "American Clouds", and "Wish", proving that not only are they gifted musicians, but they know how to flat out rock. The rhythm section was particularly on point all night, as drummer Gavin McDonald was a monster behind the kit, along side Chad Howat effortlessly switching between bass & synth, as the pair were particularly strong on 'Tiger Teeth", and "Last Time." The two headed monster on vocals of J.T Daly and Andy Smith traded lead and harmonies all night, not missing a step in either case, highlighted by "Empty House" and "You Kill Me" off their "Are We All Forgotten' EP and "Last Time" off their new debut LP, Absence, which showcased the bands tight playing, with it's start and stop break.
If your familiar with Paper Route's music, then you know the band make big ambitious music, with soaring choruses that could easily take to a larger arena or stage, but in the intimate setting at Mercury Lounge the bands music never seemed cramped or lost. The band put on one of the most energetic and intense sets I've seen this year, and if you haven't checked them out yet, you still have some time as the group have select dates left across the US (for all the dates check below).

Setlist:
American Clouds
Wish
Carousel
Are We All Forgotten

new video: Paper Route-"Carousel"

Paper Route's long awaited debut full length, Absence hit stores a few weeks back. The Nashville based, electro-synth heavy group have gained a dedicated growing legion of fans over the last several years just off the strength of a few EP's, one of which was the precursor to 'Absence', the ' 08 EP 'Are We All Forgotten'. Early reviews coming in for the new album have been drawing comparisons and claims that Paper Route are America's answer to Euro symphonic-pop artists like, M83 and Air.
One song that appeared both on the EP and now on 'Absence' is the emotionally charged first single, "Carousel." The band just released a new video for the track by the famed director Olivier Groulx ( Arcade Fire ). Check it out below.

Paper Route: debut full length out next month

I've been following the guys in the Nashville based band, Paper Route ever since randomly finding them on a compilation disc of Tennesee musicians called 'Ten out of Tenn' back in 2005, with their simply haunting track, "Second Chances." Since then, there has been talk of a full length that never seemed to materialize, as the band put out a few EP's along the way, including last years Are We All Forgotten (to read our review click here), which showcased their ability to create sweeping, grand electronic/rock. Fans will be happy to know though that the group has finally wrapped up their full length debut, titled Absence, and it will get a release date of April 28th on Universal Motown. The band, who has been out on the road for most of the past year, kick off another leg of their tour this coming April 2nd, playing dates with Copeland, and Brooke Waggoner. see dates below.

Paper Route- New tour dates

You may already know that Nashville is quite well known for it's singer/songwriter & country music scenes. But what you may not know is that one of the best new bands to come out of Nashville recently is the indie-electronica project Paper Route. The band released their stellar EP Are We All Forgotten this past summer which takes those traditional sounds of Nashville's Americana roots and gives it a fresh take blending it with electonic and indie rock elements. The band has been on tour most of the summer and into the fall and they just added a handful of new tour dates, which sees them touring with bands Low Vs Diamond and Barcelona. Check out the title track to the EP below "Are We All Forgotten".

Paper Route- 'Are We All Forgotten'

Paper Route is a band I first stumbled on a few years back on a compilation of Tennesee musicians titled Ten Out Of Tenn., which featured the phenomenal electronic ballad "Second Chances". Needless to say i was instantly hooked with their work and purchased their self titled Ep at the time. The band is now back with a new 5 song Ep Are We All Forgotten which not only sees them picking up where they left off but going far beyond their earlier work. Paper Route often gets the label as an Americana based band mixed with elements of electronica, maybe due to the fact of being based out of Nashville. But the band is much more than that, with parts indie rock, mixed with pop and ambient soundscapes and doses of electronica, the band has one of the more unique sounds coming out of the Nashville scene that sets them apart.
On the new Ep the bands sound seems hard to restrain, as if built to be played in larger venues that can't hold it back. From the slow building opener "American Clouds" to the title track "Are We All Forgotten" with it's soaring chorus, the group shows great pop sensibilty and depth. "Empty House" takes things to the next level with it's southern rock guitar intertwined with it's breezy melodies, while "You Kill Me" is the most haunting track on the disc with thick layers of synth and strings setting the mood.
The group has been on tour for much of the year working on the live sound, and will continue touring thru much of August in support of the new Ep.
To check the live dates or to listen to tracks off 'Are We All Forgotten', you can visit the bands myspace.

Paper Route- New Ep coming

One of the more anticipated new works we've been looking forward to this year is from the Nashville Indie-electronic group Paper Route. The band just unveiled a sneak preview of the new Are We All Forgotten EP in the form of a video teaser. The EP will be hitting stores and online on July 8th.
Although the group has posted several new songs in their rough form over the past 1/2 year or so on their Myspace, we haven't had new material from the band since back in 2006 with their self titled debut EP. The EP featured two of the best songs that '06 had to offer with "Second Chances" and "Cityscape".

Here's the sneak peak:

Paper Route - Sxsw news

Some news from the Paper Route camp.
The band has just finalized management with Esther Creative Group in NYC which is home to such artists as Blonde Redhead, Langhorne Slim, Annuals & Lou Reed.
Speaking of Lou, while at SXSW the band was invited to play the Lou Reed tribute show which included performers like... My Morning Jacket, Thurston Moore, Moby, Yo La Tengo, Joseph Arthur and more. Paper Route performed 2 songs, the first of which was from Lou's Metal Machine Music album. Which was an album of nothing but guitar feedback at different speeds. They then performed "Vanishing Act", a song off of Reed's most recent The Raven album.
In other news the band has been in the studio hard at work recording for a new album which according to JT is looking like a fall or winter of 08 release?? You can currently hear 2 unreleased tracks "Carousel" and "Are we all Forgotten" which is one of the band's strongest tracks to date on their myspace.
