This weeks 'Song of the Week' comes from the Seattle, Wa. band
Pickwick. Their song, "Blackout" is an oldie but a goodie, and I mean that in more ways than one. The track comes from their March 2011 EP,
Myths, Vol. 3, and it has an uptempo soulful, R&B vibe that would make Berry Gordy proud. I get the same feeling listening to Pickwick's music that I did the first time I heard the Afghan Whigs(who are an all-time favorite btw). Maybe a bad comparison because the bands sounds are vastly different, but I mean in the sense that they both are throwbacks and give a nod to the Motown sound without sounding like a ripoff, giving it a unique and updated spin all their own.
Give a listen to "Blackout" below, and check out the bands three other EP's over at
their bandcamp.
