New Music from Thieving Irons- "End of September"

I've been following closely the work of former Pela guitarist, Nate Martinez and his project, Thieving Irons. He put out an excellent album called, This Midnight Hum back in 2010, and he's been working on the follow up, which has given us the track, "So Long" thus far. I finally had the chance to see the band live last night, where he finished up a month long residency at The Rock Shop in Brooklyn. Nate and the band played a great set, which featured almost exclusively tracks from the forthcoming LP, which btw he mentioned might see a release this June. Although I wasn't familiar with some of the new tunes, one of my favorites from the night was the new track, "End of September" which recently got posted online from a live session the band did with KEXP. Watch & listen below.

Thieving Irons- "So Long" (live session)

Former Pela guitarist, Nate Martinez has been prepping his sophomore effort under the Thieving Irons moniker. The album is slated for release sometime this year and so far the new project has given us a preview of the dreamy single, "So Long" from the forthcoming LP. Back in October during CMJ they stopped by the Ace Hotel in NYC to play an acoustic set for KEXP, which just got posted online. The band played three new songs including the aforementioned, "So Long." You can watch the whole session over on the KEXP blog, and if you head over to the Thieving Iron's website HERE you can pick up "So Long" as a free download.
Also if your in the NYC area this month the band is playing a residency at the Rock Shop in Brooklyn on Monday nights, come and check them out.

New Video: Thieving Irons- "So Long"

Here on the blog we love all things Pela. It was sad to see the band split, but this year has seen some great new music rise up from three of the bands former members. Billy and Eric went on to form We Are Augustines, who put out a brilliant record, Rise Ye Sunken Ships, and former guitarist Nate Martinez started his new band, Thieving Irons. Martinez formed the group in 2010, and later that year released an album, This Midnight Hum. Thieving Irons is now readying a new album for 2012, and a few weeks back they put out a new single called "So Long." They just released a new video for the track directed by Micah Van Hove, which you can watch below or grab yourself a free download of after the jump.

Nate Martinez from Pela has new project: Thieving Irons

When one of my favorite bands, Pela disbanded in 2009 I was seriously bummed out, along with a lot of other fans of the band who believed they were on the cusp of blowing up. But in what could be the best news I've heard so far this 2010, comes word that guitarist Nate Martinez is readying his first solo project, called Thieving Irons. He's been in the studio finishing work on his debut, titled 'This Midnight Hum' with the help of some friends, Mike Brown, Dan Brantigan, Bryan Devendorf, Soda Gardocki, Jim Smith, and Zak Ward.

he just posted a demo of one of the new songs, "Ashes On The Riverbank" which sounds extremely promising, and you can give it a listen and download it here.

You can also check out some footage of him recording in the studio:
